Jonathan Mooney
Truman Fellowship
recipient;
Founder of Project Eye-to-Eye;
Co-author of the award-winning book Learning Outside the Lines
A 2000 Brown University graduate with a 4.0 GPA, recipient of a Truman Fellowship for graduate study, and co-author of a bestselling book: You would never guess that Jonathan Mooney struggled for years with dyslexia.
Other young people recognize themselves in Mooney’s story, however, as he speaks to audiences across the country — and begin to discover, as he did, that LD is not a brain disease, but a different way of learning.
"I stopped allowing myself to believe I was deficient, found something I loved to do … and took ownership over my education," he tells young people.
“We need to get away from the disorder/deficit model. Rather than teaching our children to think they have a problem, we need to talk about what they can do not despite dyslexia, but because of it.”
