Discovering that your child has learning disabilities can be overwhelming. You suddenly find yourself in a world that you know little about, surrounded by people speaking in tongues—“IEP,” “IDEA,” “RTI,” etc., all while coming to grips with the fact that the hopes and dreams you had for your child may be in jeopardy.

You are not alone.

Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities was started by parents like you for parents like you. This website represents our combined expertise and experiences. Here you’ll find the shared wisdom of the “experts”—the professionals who work with children with LD as well as the parents who live with them.

Because taking the first step may be the hardest, we encourage you to begin your journey with the information listed below. Not all of it will apply to your child, but it will give you an overview of some of the concerns you’ll need to address in learning how to help your child.

Once you’re comfortable with the basics, explore the website at your own pace. Despite your eagerness to know everything about your child’s specific learning issue right now, we know that it’s impossible to take it all in at once. We invite you to come back often, and to share your experiences with us, and with other parents.
